A Levels Essays

Practice: Write. Darn, Write!

Practice: Write, Darn Write!

During my 'A' Levels exams in 2007, I got so sick of reading my notes and studying theories and concepts of the arts subjects I was taking, I decided to start practising instead. I know loads of students prefer to spend time memorizing theories and concepts that might be tested rather than try to test them on writing or practice applying them on foolscap paper. My friends used to say it's a waste of paper or that they feel drained after writing just a single essay. God knows how they managed to finish like 3-5 essays within 3 hours during examinations.

My philosophy for learning within the constraints of the education system (yes, sometimes I think the education system poses a constraint to learning although other times it provides us with the impetus to learn) is to practice as much as possible and simulate examination conditions whenever possible. I ended up with quite a number of essays I've typed out on the computer within the timing of an essay in the exam. Of course, when diagrams are necessary for Economics essays, I opted for a short description rather than the ridiculous-but-conceivable mouse-and-MSPaint solution.

I've made these essays available to my friends during my A Levels period and here they are, for students and readers who might be interested.

I hope these essays helped and do note that they are not necessarily model by any standards and I hope I don't get blamed for causing any of your writing performance to deviate from what you might expect from trying to learn from my essays. More importantly, these essays were not marked by any teachers during my time so I'll have to depend on dear readers' keen sense of the assessment requirements to assess if my essays make the mark. Do note also that my "Entertainment Essay" is strictly a joke from one tired afternoon at home so it's more for your reading pleasure than learning. It does hold the cliches of typical GP essays though.
